It has been two weeks since I moved to California and it has already been an unforgettable experience. The weather is amazing and the restaurants have the best outdoor patios to compliment the great weather.
Last week my boyfriend, Max and I, had a romantic dinner at an upscale vegan restaurant called Millennium Restaurant in Rockridge, Oakland. The outdoor patio was beautiful but it could not even compare to the food! This vegan cuisine was the best I have ever had. Each course had an unique feature to it which made this restaurant stand out from any other vegan restaurant I have been to.
Our appetizer was Pan Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with smoked pear ketchup and Chaat Fried Chick Peas paired with a lovely glass of Chardonnay for my “Chardondaddy” (as he likes to call himself) and the Midsummer Pimm’s cocktail.
For our main course I had the Okonomiyaki which was a rice & cabbage griddle cake, grilled beech mushrooms, apricot tonkatsu sauce, tofu mayonnaise, green strawberry & ginger pickle, smoked green tea salt, basil, crisped shallots. This dish had so many different textures and flavors that meshed so well together, it was nothing like anything I have ever tasted.
Max had the Spring Fattoush Salad: borlotti bean & espelette pepper hummus, carrot, radish, asparagus, cucumber, pickled green tomato, fava beans, purslane, walnut-chile-dukkah oil, black pepper-sesame seed flatbread.
Both of our main courses were amazing but nothing compared to the dessert. We got the Tasting Trip Platter; with the platter we were able to pick three different desserts. We got the,
Lemongrass & Blueberry Crème Brûleé: blueberry-shiso confit, lemongrass-coconut custard, gunpowder green tea ice cream, housemade matcha pocky cookies.
Stone Fruit Sundae: apricot & cardamom ice creams, amaretto white chocolate cream, roasted white peaches, ginger molasses cookie, apricot caramel sauce.
